Everyone is horrified about another mass shooting, this one in a movie theater in Aurora, CO at a midnight showing of The Dark Knight Rises. Gun violence in the U.S. is the highest in the world, and we need to do something about it. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the dozen murdered victims and the over 50 wounded. Don’t quite get thee Bat gun logo as 14 people were killed at said movie. Perhaps a gun with a red circle and slash through it would have been a bit more appropriate instaed of a “cartoon”
if everyone had a gun this would have never happened.

To all of these mental midgets who keep arguing that this wouldn’t have happened if someone else in the theater had been armed:
What would you have done if you had been sitting in that theater and you had a gun? Fired into a darkened, smokey room… with rows and rows of people between you and the shooter?
Genius.
I’m glad that no one else in that theater had a gun. So many MORE people could have been killed if there had been.
Accurately firing a gun while under fire is a skill that is trained into soldiers. It is trained into police officers. It is not a skill that you get a WalMart while filling out your application for a firearm. What would have happened if members of the audience were armed? The members that weren’t cowering and wetting themselves would have fired wildly into the direction they THOUGHT the shots were coming from and hurt more people. A point that’s been made by others here and around the internet. I am a gun owner and am trained to use a firearm. Many, MANY of my friends are soldiers and they would laugh if I even intimated that I may be close to qualified to make an accurate shot under fire.
Instead of saying, this wouldn’t have happened if someone in the audience had been armed (a statement that I find specious since the guy would still have walked in and opened fire, the armed person would have had to notice, draw, turn, aim and fire… that takes time.) How about if the guy that walked into the theater had been UNABLE TO ACQUIRE A GUN he wouldn’t have killed anyone.
More laws would not help. What that murderer did was already illegal, and in violation of many laws. He obviously didn’t care if he was breaking the law, and he would not have cared if he was breaking a few more laws as well.
How many existing laws did he break?
Count ‘em, starting with it is illegal to kill people,
illegal to fire a gun in the city limits,
he had an illegal gun he wasn’t supposed to be able to have,
illegal for him to bring a loaded gun into a movie theater,
illegal for him to have a loaded gun in public,
he booby trapped his home with bombs to try & kill the investigators…
(Keep going, he broke a lot more laws!) All of those are Already Illegal acts.
None of those laws deterred him from committing his heinous crime(s). More of the same won’t help. We need a different solution.
