Merry Christmas from ‘Pancho Claus’ and Lalo Guerrero (videos)

by QUESO QUESEM on December 21, 2012 in Cultura, Video

Pancho Claus? He’s Santa’s cousin from south of the border! Long before he recorded novelty tunes, Lalo Guerrero was a star. Some call him the Father of Chicano music.

Guerrero’s amazing musical legacy (he died in 2005) includes the totally rockin’ “boogie woogie jitterbug” Los Chucos Suaves – the inspiration for Zoot Suit (the musical.) Dig that killer piano solo!

Can you donate $5 or $10 so we can make more ñews y satire?
MR. POCHO SAYS ¡GRACIAS!

Thank you for reminding us of our cultural history. My respects to the generation that stood up and said “ya basta”. They took a beating during those times, but still maintained their Zoot-ness. Que viva nuestra cultura!
