In the new music video from Winnipeg’s The Mariachi Ghost, Susana, mom and dad seek to separate young lovers. But cutting heart strings is a dangerous approach.

Band leader and video director Jorge Requena:
True love is madness. Finding that perfect partner that exists as a mirror that makes you feel good but at the same time never good enough is a state of uncertainty that becomes the ultimate motivator. Attaining this love is the tallest mountain top and having that love taken away is a pain worse than death. ‘Susana’ mixes equal parts epic western soundtracks, the drama of Mexican diva Rocio Durcal and quintessential Rock en Español moments to capture these feelings of rapture and madness. In the video, Susana is a bird trapped in a gilded cage, the quintessential Latin American rich girl wanting nothing more than her freedom; To love and live on her own terms. But fortune isn’t freedom and the trappings of her family and class rob her of true love and ultimately leads to tragedy. Love is made of the things that are taken away.
