Cuba’s President Raul Castro and President Barack Obama were the world’s most famous fans Tuesday as they wrapped up their historic fence-mending encounter by doing the wave at an exhibition baseball game in Havana.
The MLB’s Tampa Bay Rays’ 4-1 victory over the Cuban national team, as cool as it was, was overshadowed by the epic implications of a new era in Cuba-US relations.
Older pochos will remember “ping-pong diplomacy” and its role in a rapprochement with China. These days, all we are saying is give beisbol a chance. It’s been berry berry good to me.
